Which US divorces are subject to registration and which are subject to recognition?
U.S. divorce decrees issued since July 1, 2009 are subject to registration at the registry office in Poland. Remember this magic date. That’s because if your American divorce decree is from before July 1, 2009, it is not eligible for the registration procedure before the registry office, only for the procedure of recognition by a Polish court. As you may have guessed, the court recognition procedure is a bit more complicated.

- U.S. divorce judgments issued since July 1, 2009 are subject to registration with the registry office, but
- U.S. divorce judgments issued before July 1, 2009 are subject to court recognition.
What documents are required to register an American divorce in Poland?
First and foremost, you need the original US divorce judgment. Remember, however, that this judgment must be final (final judgment) and the finality of the judgment must appear from the divorce documents. And if it does not, an additional document from the US court will be required. Secondly, an original certified translation of the US divorce judgment is required.
